Life’s Too Short to be Long …

Talking with my daughter on her birthday few days ago she lamented, somewhat facetiously, “I’m already in my late 20’s so I have to be more intentional about life, life is too short not to be intentional”.
So after I got over the “I’m in my late 20’s” thing and reminded her that late twenties is still young especially compared to me in my late fifties, we talked about the awareness that life indeed is short.
It got me thinking, what else is life too short for? My daughter and I agreed that life is too short to not be intentional.

Especially if you are in leadership, a C Level executive or business owner or leader in a NPO, time is a premium asset that we have to maximize and optimize. So here are some other life is too short nuggets:

Life is too short to …
- Play it safe and not pursue my purpose in life
- Waste my time trying to prove my worth to haters & naysayers who believe what they wanna believe anyway
- Live my life in the shadow of my past mistakes
- Live my life in the shadow of other people’s expectations
- Believe 3rd party tattle tale about other people
- Share my big dreams with small minded people
- Let my feelings dictate my drive, direction & destiny
- Allow disagreements to devolve into dysfunction
- Miss out on opportunities to make an impact
- Listen to politicians. They seem to have a twisted version of truth & reality
- Not focus on future growth instead of present pleasure
- Confuse activity with accomplishment
- Confuse doing things with getting things done
- Not connect with the Universe by connecting to others
- Spend money like it’s going out of style
- Care what low achievers have to say about my pursuit of high achievement
- Not say what needs to be said in a way that it gets heard
- Not seek out advise from high performing people
- Sit & Watch millionaire athletes make $$ and get distracted from me from making my $$
- Let resentment & unforgiveness live in my heart
- Live in irrational fear
- Be bored
- Be angry at people, even if they deserve my anger & wrath
- Complicate the simple and simplify the complicated
- Not intentionally love those who I say I love
- Drive an old car
- Feel sorry for myself
- Listen to country music (sorry you country music lovers!!)
- Not accept that my truths don’t have to be your truth
- Not understand that I could not like what you like, but I can still like you
- Not work on love. Love worth keeping is love worth working on to keep
- Believe that age is a number. I am as old as I wanna be, mentally
- Not be authentic. I am the only original me that there is & will ever be in the history and future of the Universe.
- Miss the opportunity to change a single life if even in the smallest of ways
- Blame failure on people or circumstances
- Try to be like someone else
- Not be honest with myself, because I can’t fool me, no matter how hard I try
- Try changing people’s opinions without first trying to change their lives
- Look for validation from people – the Universe validates me by the opportunities it sends me and the doors it opens for me.
- Let a day go by without showing my wife how much I love her
- Not show love for the Universe
- Live in fantasy land, chasing fantasies instead of goals
- Not be intentional about financial fitness
- Not know the difference between cowardice, caution and courage
- Waste words on deaf ears that won’t listen to wisdom
- Talk myself out of pursuing my dreams
- Look for the easy road
- Jump to conclusions when I could walk to the facts
- Believe everything on Facebook, YouTube or Google
- Not acknowledge & collaborate with a Higher Power, no matter what I call it.
